Impact Affair has on a child

In the novel Pearl, who is Hester Prynne’s only child, is very different in the way that she thinks. She asks many questions that are some what controversial. She is asking about the scarlet letter and other questions that are hard to answer. Pearl is unaware of what has happened and asks many questions. In the article they say that younger children are more likely to ask questions and want to know more, even thought they know a lot already. And Pearl is always thinking about her mother’s relationships and the scarlet letter. It helps to understand the novel better because it describes why a child might act the way they acted, and in the Scarlet Letter, Pearl is very different, she seems more mature and wonders about so many things that most kids her age wouldn’t think about. Even though she is very young throughout most of the novel.

Isolation

Hester Prynne and her daughter, Pearl, are given the chance to move and live somewhere far away. But Hester decides to move to just the outskirts of town. Even though its not very far from the community she is still isolated. She is isolated socially because of the scarlet letter and physically, she lives on the outskirts of town. She changes her lifestyle and Pearl, being raised in this isolation, has grown up differently than most children. The article says that people are just naturally curious and if they’re living in isolation is just bad because it doesn’t give a person to explore and learn things by themselves. So they have to rely on asking people many questions. Because Pearl hasn’t been given this chance to explore world by herself she always thinks to herself and kind of has her own thoughts about how things are.

Why Hester Prynne would have an affair

Hester has an affair with a man while her husband is thought to be lost. And during the time she is waiting for her husband to return she has had a child with the man she was having an affair with. In the article it talks about the many reason that a woman would possibly have an affair. One of the reasons they talk about is loneliness. I think that it relates because I would believe that waiting for your husband who possibly might not return would be terribly hard. It helps understand why Hester might have had an affair. In the novel they describe that she was very beautiful. Until she got older and than she lost all her beauty. In the article they say how having an affair might make a woman feel more confident and feel more beautiful because it’s assuring that you are still attractive.
